Organic legumes provide natural fertility to the soil, through nitrogen-fixing root nodules that live in symbiosis with plants and provide them with essential natural nutrition. To keep the soil healthy, these crops fit perfectly into a crop rotation, leaving the soil healthier for the next crop.

Growers in the north of the Netherlands are enthusiasts of heirloom varieties of legumes, which have been preserved and cultivated on a small scale because the flavour is so delicious. In collaboration with Waldfarming, there are around ten farmers who cultivate these heirloom varieties on a larger scale.

These legumes have poetic names such as: Wonder van Scheemda, Dik Trom, Drentse kievitsboon, Zoete Kollumer, Friese Woudboon, Grauwe erwt, Groninger stro gele dreuge boon, Krombek witte boon, Marianne capucijners, and Reade krobbe.

Tasty adventurous flavours in a jar, sustainably preservable, plant-based convenience. A meal in itself!

Preparation advice:

Use: Easy to heat up, au bain-marie or in the microwave.

Serving tip: Delicious with a good piece of farmhouse bread, rice, or stirred through pasta.

Storage:

Unopened, keeps for 550 days, store in a dark environment at 0°C to 30°C.

Once opened, keeps for 2 days at 4°C to 7°C
